Napster, written by a college freshman and released last year, is a free program that lets users swap music files with each other. Users upload the CD music they wish to share and download the tunes already uploaded by other users. Napster has caught the attention of the recording industry, which filed suit against the .com in December of '99. All the rage on the Nation's campuses, it also has the attention of University network administrators who, accuse Napster of being a bandwidth hog.
